Laminating & Binding Frequently Asked Questions

Helpful answers about protecting, assembling and adding the right finish to printed work.

Which lamination finish should I choose?

Gloss lamination gives colour and images a brighter, more reflective appearance. Matte lamination reduces reflection for a restrained finish, while soft-touch lamination adds a smooth, tactile feel. Tell us how the item will be used and the look you prefer.

Can every printed item be laminated?

Suitability depends on the paper, ink, finished size and intended use. Describe the printed item and whether it will be handled frequently, displayed or exposed to moisture so the job can be assessed before quoting.

What information is needed for a binding quotation?

Include the document size, number of pages, quantity, cover requirements and preferred binding style where known. If you are unsure which binding will suit the document, the team can review the page count and intended use.

What is the difference between folding and creasing?

Creasing creates a controlled line that helps thicker paper or card fold cleanly. Folding is the process of forming the finished fold. Some jobs require both, depending on the material and design.

Can forms be perforated and numbered?

Yes. Include the required perforation position, number of parts, numbering sequence, quantity and finished size. The file and production setup can then be confirmed.

What does guillotining involve?

Guillotining trims printed sheets or paper to the required finished dimensions. Provide the final size and quantity, and any bleed or artwork requirements will be confirmed once the job has been reviewed.

Can foil, ribbon or wax seals be added to any printed item?

Not every paper, design or quantity suits every decorative finish. Tell us which finish you want and where it should appear so the stock, artwork and production requirements can be assessed.

When do I supply artwork or printed materials?

You do not need to upload artwork with the general quotation form. The team will first review the finishing service, size, quantity and material, then confirm which files or printed items are required and how they should be supplied.
